First thing to establish is why you would need to have software to do this in the first place. In most cases it is because social bookmarks give quality in coming links, and despite the fact that many have a ‘no follow’ tab there is plenty of evidence that some of the link influence still gets through. But if you are reading this you probably know this. You also know that submitting bookmarks takes forever, you do not work with the internet so spend forever at your screen!

Free software
The only free software that I have found that works is available from softlist.net. it works well but it only links to 8 sites, in about 10 seconds, given that this is 1000 x faster than doing it by hand

Social bookmark submitter if part of a suit of software designed to promote your site the also have comment posters for Blogs, youtube, etc, as well as trackbacks, and pinging software.
Advantages
It is genuinely hands off, set and forget!

Disadvantages
You need a server to run it from, with a domain name, and SQL, PHP etc
Despite the authors claims, I found it hard to configure, the software was fine but the requirement for my server to run ‘Plesk’ caused an issue as I lost a whole weekend getting it to work
It can’t cope with those sites that require CAPTCHA to submit a bookmark.
I also found it would not run very fast on my server because it really did chew up my memory.
Results
It got my site from 150 visitors a day to 1000+ a day with no effort, but it took a year to do it, and I bought the whole set of software
Bookmarking daemon
Bookmarking daemon is a ‘stand alone’ software, all you need is a computer.
Advantages
It can cope with CAPTCHA, so you bookmark at twice as many sites
It has a beginners mode that gets you going in seconds
You can subcontract the CAPTCHA for a few cents each time you run the software
It also pings all the bookmarks so the robots know to come and look

Disadvantages
It is not totally hands off, you need to advance each step yourself, it takes around 15 mins to do 100 bookmarks and ping then
You need to back up your software because getting replacement after my crash without the original email was a big issue.

Got my squidoo page to 3 on Google in 24 Hours!
OK my recommendations
If you have a website, especially if it is on a server or VPS and you want to promote it across Social bookmarks, blogs, youtube, blog comments, trackback, in fact if you are in for a long hall and if it is all about the site I recommend you go for Social bookmark submitter
